Background
In 2015, the Pakistan Cricket Board approved the creation of five city-based franchises for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The Peshawar franchise was purchased by Haier Pakistan for a sum of 16 million USD. During the first season of the PSL, Peshawar Zalmi performed well, but ultimately lost to Islamabad United in the second qualifier match and was eliminated from the tournament.
