The T20 World Cup is one of the most prestigious competitions in cricket, and it has featured some of the top teams and players from around the world since its beginning in 2007. The event has been contested every two years since 2007, and the victors of each edition have engraved their names in cricket history. The list of T20 World Cup winners reads like a who’s who of the world’s top teams, from the original champions, India, through the most recent winners. The International Cricket Council (ICC) agreed to hold a World Cup every two years after the overwhelming success of local competitions. The first edition of the ICC T20 World Cup was held in this manner in 2007. India defeated Pakistan in the inaugural season of the T20 World Cup, which was held in South Africa in 2007. Winner of the 2007 T20 World Cup: India

The final match of the first World Cup in T20 cricket was played on September 24, 2007, in Johannesburg between India and Pakistan. The Indian team, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, won the toss and was elected to bat first. Gautam Gambhir scored 74 runs off 54 balls, and Rohit Sharma hit 30 runs off 16 balls. As a result, India maintained a scoreboard target of 158 runs. Pakistani batsmen struggled and lost some early wickets while chasing. Misbah-ul-Haq played well and helped Pakistan get back into the game. The final over of the match was tense for everyone, as Pakistan needed 13 runs in the final over to win the T20 World Cup 2007. However, Pakistan was unable to complete the task and thus lost. In that match, RP Singh and Irfan Pathan each took three wickets. Thus, India became the first T20 cricket World Cup champion in 2007.

Winner of the 2009 T20 World Cup: Pakistan

In 2009, Pakistan and Sri Lanka advanced to the final of the second T20 World Cup. On June 21, both teams competed for the championship at Lord’s. The captain of Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. They had lost control of the match from the start, losing Tillakaratne Dilshan in the first over. Pakistan completely destroyed Sri Lanka’s top order, and no batsman could do much except their captain, Kumar Sangakkara. He had 64 not-outs, which helped them put 138 on the board. The target was not difficult for Pakistani batsmen to achieve, thanks to Shahid Afridi’s brilliant fifty. In 2009, Pakistan won the second T20 Cricket World Cup.

Winner of the 2010 T20 World Cup: England

England and Australia faced off in the final match of the Third T20 World Cup for the World Cup title. On May 16, the match began with the toss, which England won, and they invited the opposition to bat in Bridgetown. Australia did not get off to a good start, losing both of their first two openers. They were under pressure when they were 45-4, but David Hussey’s 59 runs helped them reach 147. Despite losing one wicket early on, England’s batsmen played with confidence and put on 111 runs for the second wicket. Craig Kieswetter’s 63 runs and Kevin Pietersen’s 47 runs contributed to their third T20 World Cup victory in 2010.

Winner of the 2012 T20 World Cup: West Indies

In 2012, the West Indies and Sri Lanka developed to the final of the fourth T20 World Cup. Both teams were prepared to give their all in order to win the championship in Colombo on October 7, 2012. The West Indies captain won the toss and batted first, scoring 137/6. Marlon Samuels’ 78-run inning aided them in reaching 137. Sri Lankan batsmen struggled to reach the target of 138 runs and were bowled out at 101. In 2012, West Indies won the title by a score of 36 runs.

Winner of the 2014 T20 World Cup: Sri Lanka

The final match for the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup title was played on 6 April 2014 in Dhaka between India and Sri Lanka. India batted first but lost their first wicket so quickly. Virat Kohli batted very well and scored 78 runs in that match, but Yuvraj Singh’s slow inning slowed their run rate. Finally, India scored only 130 runs, while Sri Lanka had no difficulty reaching the target. Kumar Sangakkara hit 52 runs off 35 balls to lead his team to victory and the title in 2014.

Winner of the 2016 T20 World Cup: West Indies

The final match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 was played on 3 April 2016 in Kolkata between West Indies and England. West Indies and England gave it their all to win the World Championship, and it was one of the best finals ever. Carlos Brathwaite struck three sixes to Ben Stokes in the final to give his team the victory. England set a target of 156 runs for the West Indies, which was achieved thanks to the incredible innings of Marlon Samuels and Carlos Brathwaite. Marlon Samuels was named Man of the Match after scoring an unbeaten 84 runs to help West Indies win the title for the second time.

Australia won the T20 World Cup 2021 last year by defeating New Zealand in the final match. Nobody predicted that Australia would win the World Cup in 2021. But they did it in a dominant manner.

Winner of the 2022 T20 World Cup: England

England was awarded victors of the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The final match was between Pakistan and England, with England winning by a score of 5 wickets. Pakistan made 137 runs in 20 overs, but England chased it down in 19 overs, finishing with a score of 138/5. With 296 runs in six matches, Indian captain Virat Kohli led the tournament in run-scoring, while Sri Lankan bowler Wanindu Hasaranga led in wicket-taking with 15 wickets in eight matches with an economy of 6.41.
