Hugh Edmeades to conduct IPL 2023 Auction in Kochin: The BCCI has secured the services of legendary English auctioneer Hugh Edmeades for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. It will take place in Kochin on December 23.
The Englishman was given the responsibility of leading the Tata IPL mega auction in 2022 as well, but he tragically passed away shortly after raising his hammer on the opening day of the IPL 2022 mega auction. During the bid for Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, Edmeades slipped off the podium and needed rapid medical attention.
After the sad incident, he didn’t show up for the auction on day one because the physicians had told him to take it easy. But he returned to the hallway the following day to finish what he had begun. Huge cheers and clapping greeted him, and he then led the event’s last leg.
On both auction days in his absence, senior sports presenter Charu Sharma carried on the proceedings till Hugh Edmeades arrived to wrap things up.
Edmeades confirmed his participation in the forthcoming Tata IPL 2023 Auction during an interview with Sportstar.
Hugh Edmeades stated, “I am delighted to have been asked by the BCCI to conduct the 2023 IPL auction and am forward to visiting Kochi for the first time.
IPL 2023 Auction to go as per original schedule
The BCCI doesn’t appear to be perturbed by the franchise executives’ desire to delay the sale in the meantime. According to the reports, the board is getting ready to hold the event on December 23, as specified in its original planned.
The IPL franchises had already asked the BCCI to postpone the IPL 2023 auction because it would coincide with the Christmas festival and many teams would otherwise lose their foreign executives.
“An auction necessitates extensive logistical planning. Everything would have to be redone if the date were changed, according to a report in InsideSport.
